Oh dear!

It didn't take long for the vandals to find us at the Community Garden. One little toerag set fire to the equipment shed. just for a laugh, AND it was on a really hot day here. Luckily we were able to put it out before either the police or firemen came, but we may not be so lucky next time.

Strawberry time!

This is the second lot of strawberries I have picked over the past couple of days, they are really doing well this year, AND they taste just like real strawberries should!

I found a use for the curtain that I recently acquired, now that we have cut down our hedge we were looking right into our neighbour's house, but no longer, thanks to the ducks.

Callington Mill

This Mill is up at Oatlands, on the Midland Hightway about 100 km from Hobart. It has recently been restored and is now a fully working mill, grinding the wheat and attracting the tourists! We went up with my Photography Group but were rather disappointed that we could not take our cameras into the Mill, safety precautions and all that. However it was a lovely day and I was well pleased with my picture postcard photo.

Oatlands is a sleepy little town, and guess what? The stork still brings the babies!

They are proud of their mill, and even incorporate it in the street signs, which is a nice touch.

A joke for Helmut

This photo reminded me of a joke I heard recently! First I would explain (for the shortsighted) that Heidi is holding in her hand a pack of sausages with the interesting name of "Proud Willies" (only the Germans could give their sausages such a name.

There was a couple, married some years, when he discovered that his Willy was getting longer. His wife didn't mind a bit, at first but when the growth spurt continued and people were starting to notice, they consulted a Specialist who said he could fix the problem, no worries. The wife asked how long her husband would be on crutches, "Crutches, why crutches?" said the Surgeon. "Well you are going to lengthen his legs, arn't you?"

The Importance of Being Ernest!

Forgot to tell you, in the week we went to see an amateur group of students presenting Oscar's play at the local theatre. I got all ready to take some photos for you and then they said no photographs!! Boo Hoo

Whats this then????

Our new Raclette arrived in the week so tonight we tried it out. It was very successful, Heidi, Ken and Karlo all enjoyed it and it made a change. I had envisaged sitting out on the deck and eating, but not tonight, it has suddenly got quite chilly again.

Its that time of the month

got you wondering? It was the first Friday of the month so it was Ladies Day at Margaret's, the ladies didn't turn up but the girls were all there!!!

The following photos are so good (even I think so) that if you double click on any of them you will get an even better image as I did not try to shrink them, even though it took me the best part of the evening and I could have been watching rubbish on the tele!

It's Margaret's turn for Girls Day

I decided to walk to Margaret's house as it is not far, and I got an uninterrupted half hour of listening to my latest Audio Book 'Winter Journey' by an Australian writer called Diane Armstrong. It is a very sad book about the terrible Pogrom which took place in Poland at the beginning of the Second World War (and in this case was blamed on the Germans but in fact it was the Catholic Poles who killed their own Polish Jews) so it was a little light relief when I turned into Margaret's gate and was met by the most beautiful garden you have ever seen. The trees which line her drive have grown and are at their wonderful best at this time of the year. I am truly grateful that I have such clever friends, they are all so talented (you never know, they may even read this!!!)

Lunch

Lunch is a simple affair at Margarets, one thing she hates is cooking, she agonises for days before we come but it is always delicious.

What's this she is pulling out of the bag now!

She is starting yet another stumpwork design, and finishing off the beadwork, she likes to have several projects going at the same time. She knits a lot too, we counted six different projects, ranging from a fine scarf knitted on such delicate wool, it was more like a cobweb than a scarf, to jumpers and cardigans and yet another scarf. You would think she would be too busy in the garden, the orchid house and at embroidery classes to wear them all!

Margaret goes to lots of Embroidery classes, as you can gather. This was some beam embroidery which she is just starting to do.

Golden Beetles

These are examples of stumpwork, done in gold thread, must have taken her forever. When does she find time to tend her orchids, see next few posts.
