Fund Raising Dinner Parties

We are off again!   And this time it is to raise money to train Doctors and Nurses in The Congo.

Recently at PROBUS we had an awe-inspiring talk by a young Doctor who had been brought up in The Congo by her Missionary parents.   She came back to Australia and trained as a Doctor, won a Scholarship to enable her to set up The Mafunzo Project (they have a Website) to provide the money to train students in their own country to become doctors and nurses.   They train in their hospital, Panzi, in Bukavu, which is on the border with Rwanda.
It costs $200 for a nurse and $500 for a Doctor for one year and the training is four years and seven years respectively.   They have to show their commitment by funding their first year of study themselves.

So, with some help from friend Barbara (who was a nurse herself and has been to Africa) I am going to see how much money we can raise by cooking a three course meal here, for six people at a time.

Heidi helped set up The Mafunzo Tree and provides help in a practical way with advice and ideas and her nice writing out of menus etc.   By the time we have run out of steam (and customers) we hope to have a tree full of autographed leaves.
The tree will have everyone's name on it and keeps tally of money raised in a fun way.

Each Dinner Party should yield $130 for Mafunzo and we plan to do not more than one a week, evenings or Sunday lunchtime.

We had our first one on Friday evening, for six, and as you can see, the table was set and after dinner three contented (if rather full up) ladies posed for a photo.

What a brilliant idea! I wish you the best of luck for your project and look forward to hear how much money you will raise in the end
