The view from Downunder!

Downunder the bed! and what was I doing, looking under the bed? I was looking for my corks - but that's another story!

Australia is a very cobwebby place, I know I will be construed as a whingeing Pom but I am sure there are not so many cobwebs in England!

'Retreating' again.

but this time to the Tasman Peninsular, for three nights at an Ecovillage, but this time we have 'real' power, TV, a very pleasant restaurant, Pool and Spa and other people around.

We stopped off at Pirates Bay for our first view of the Peninsular, down towards Cape Rauel, just visible in the second photo through the mist. This is a very beautiful part of Tasmania, with lots of Convict History and fantastic views, as you will see from the next photos.

The Tessalated Pavements at Eaglehawk Neck.

On the way down to Port Arthur you can see the Pavements which have been formed, over millions of years by salt crystals! Who would have thought that continuous washing over of seawater could force the rocks apart into these cobblestone-like formations.

This is Cape Pillar

Unfortunately we couldn't get down to Remarkable Cave as the way had been washed out by recent heavy seas, butthe view fo Cape Pillar and the Dolorite Cliffs was well worth the drive.

and a little ecotour boat like the one we went on from Bruny Island. I hope to do this tour some time in the near future, as Heidi and I certainly enjoyed the one we went on, but it wouldn't be Ken's cup of tea!

On the way to Salt Water River

we passed this neat little General Store, which sold just about everything. Feeling nostaligic we bought a Cox's Orange Pippin Apple Tree.

If he doesn't behave himself

he will find himself in the Solitary Confinement Cell at Salt Water River. No wonder some of the Convicts went mad!

The sound of the Tom Toms!

We spent a pleasant evening in good company doing some drumming, not as easy as you think. Don't think we should give up our Day Jobs!!

More from the Archives

From our trip some time ago up to the North Coast I chose these three photos. The first was a little famale Blue Wren who kept us amused for some time with her antics around the base of the tree, the second was a secluded beach but it was not until I looked at the photo again tonight that I law the two sandcastles in the foreground, so someone HAD been there before us! And the third was a photo of two blokes looking for Pippies in the shallow water. Wonder what they did with them, surely you don't eat Pippies!
