Heidi and Karlo had a visit recently from this beautiful Blue Tongue Lizard! Apparently if you have Blue Tongue Lizards in your garden you do not have snakes, so that is one consolation.

Yes great things to have around - we had one when I was a child that mainly lived in the vegie patch - used to give me heart failure when I would be picking peas and suddenly see his head - an anxious look always to make sure legs were attached!
A beautiful creature - do they keep mossies and other insects in check?
I am not sure, I would think so, but if they just keep the snakes at bay we will be happy, as so many dogs in Oz die of snake bites cos they can't tell their owner what has happened and usually by the time they go to the vet it is too late.
