Species gladioli

I thought these were boring, but I must admit, seen enmasse like this they look lovely, perhaps I will let them remain, they were under threat of eviction!

Virginia is creeping!

You will never guess what I have been doing this morning!

I have been under the house, gathering mushrooms from the two bags of mushroom compost I bought last week for the garden.   It is an excellent soil conditioner and if you are lucky you get a side crop of mushies before you spread it all over the garden!

The First Rose of Summer!

Now we are just waiting for Summer!   It has been so windy, cold and horrible, wish it would warm up a little.

Off to the Cinema this afternoon, to see Gravity, heard lots of good reports about it, and anyway it has George Clooney for me, and Sandra Bullock for Ken, albeit well rugged up in Space Suits!!

Sunday drive

We took a drive down to The Huon on Sunday, to a little place run by an acquaintance from Teahouse days!   The view of Sleeping Beauty from our window was lovely but the dessert could have been tastier, why do they have to spoil something by microwaving it, especially pastry.   I had cherry pie and Ken enjoyed his honeycombe something or other.   But the cheese platter we had shared beforehand was ok.

Diane's Eightieth.

Yesterday we had a surprise afternoon tea at Joan's house to celebrate the upcoming BIG birthday of Diane.   Hope they don't make a habit of it, as it could be my turn next!!!

Viburnum Plicatum

Our Viburnum has a bit to go, to catch up with the one on the Botanical Gardens!

But it will get there!

Funny woodpiles

But the Japanese garden was a delight, as always.

Botanical Gardens

Yesterday Ken and I went to the Gardens to see what they have been up to lately as they are making huge alterations to the Vegie Patch.    Bit disappointed as it is nowhere near finished.

Latest addition.

Everything good comes from Germany.   My bread should taste even better now.

Skype!

Good news, just had my first Skype call with friend June, and I now have Skype on my iPad so if anyone wants to give it a go, OK?

Now for a joke.

Mrs mcGilligan was sitting doing her knitting, waiting for her husband to come home from a Probus outing to the local Guinness Brewery.   There was a knock on the door and there stood Paddy, her husband's best friend.   "But where's Shaun?"  she said.
"Oh mrs McGilligan there's been a terrible accident, Shaun was leaning over and he fell into a vat of Guinness and drowned"
When she had recovered her composure (that's a posh way of saying - stopped crying) she said "well at least I hope he went quickly" to which Paddy said "Well he didn't really, he came up three times for a pee"

Cheers, have a good Sunday.

Christmas Puddings for all!

LWent to help Riding For The Disabled with their Annual Fund Raiser, Christmas Puds!   The first session was held in Heidi's commercial kitchen some weeks ago when we sorted, weighed up and bagged up all the ingredients.    This week we met at Hobart College, in their kitchen, and got up to our armpits, mixing the puddings and then putting them into 1kg bowls to go on to Drysdale House to be steamed.   There were 16 of us, melting, mixing and packing, took us 4 hours and resulted in 320 puddings, so at $18 each, this should be "a nice little earner".

And we even had an audience
